Aprinnova has launched Neossance Squalane USP, a pharmaceutical grade of its sugarcane-derived Squalane.
The USP has modified the definition of the Squalane monograph to include material derived from plant sugars effective February 1, 2018.
Until recently, topical formulation chemists were restricted to using Squalane derived from the harvesting of shark livers in their developments. Now, formulators wanting to use compendial Squalane can do so and, at the same time, respect consumer’s desires for non-animal, cruelty-free ingredients.
While we recognize that USP grade ingredients are prevalent in the United States, it is important to highlight that USP ingredients can be used in an EU market OTC medicinal product provided that the new composition obtains the pre-market approval required by the Code on medicinal products.
This new grade opens up new opportunities for pharma brands and will allow you to access new markets such as prescription products or dermo-cosmetic products.
